BOX SCORE KINGSTON, Ont. - The Queen's Gaels women's volleyball team defeated the Royal Military College Paladins 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-21) in OUA action at the Queen's ARC Main Gym, Saturday.
The first set remained tight with scores tied at 10 all. The Gaels took the lead and first set when the Paladins got stuck at 17 points and the Gaels front line worked together to win 25-18.
The second set again started out even when the Paladins kept the score tight until Queen's was leading by a close 13-12. From there on, Queen's maintained a narrow lead, until the late stages when they pulled away to win 25-19.
The third set was off to a quick start when Queen's had an 11-2 lead. However, RMC pulled back and cut the gap to four points at 13-9, and were to within one at 19-18 and 22-21, however, the Gaels rattled off three straight points to close out the match, 25-21.
The Gaels' player of the game was
Katie Neville, who had nine kills off 15 attacks, along with three aces and two block assists. Other notable players for Queen's were
Anna Pedjase, who had 29 assists and seven digs;
Katie Hagarty, who had ten digs, and
Colleen Ogilvie, who had a match-high ten kills and nine digs.
Norah Collins and Nicole Behnke led RMC with six kills each, while Kelsey Chang had 14 digs and Brianne Baum had 15 assists.
With the win, Queen's improves to 7-2 in OUA play, while RMC drops to 2-6. The Gaels are now off for the exam break, and return to action on Saturday, January 12, when they will host Brock.
