BOX SCORE OTTAWA - A third period surge from the Queen's Gaels was not enough in a 4-2 loss to the Carleton Ravens in men's hockey on Saturday night at the Carleton Ice House.
Carleton opened the scoring at the 7:43 mark of the first period with a goal by Jeff Hayes (Ottawa, Ont.) giving the Ravens an early 1-0 lead. Hayes added a shorthanded goal for the Ravens at 11:43. In the final minute of the period, Tim Billingsley (Orleans, Ont.) added a powerplay goal for the Ravens giving Carleton a comfortable 3-0 lead heading into the second period.
In a relatively even paced second period, Carleton outshot the Gaels 11-8, however neither team was able to score. The Gaels got on the board with a powerplay goal by
Braeden Corbeth (Oakville, Ont.) at the 9:09 mark of the third period;
Steve Schmidt (Campbell River, B.C.) and
Jordan Mirwaldt (Winnipeg, Man.) had assists. The Ravens answered with a powerplay goal at 11:03 by Mitch Porowski (Ottawa, Ont.) reclaiming their 3 goal lead.
Stephane Chabot (Rockland, Ont.) added another goal for the Gaels at 18:38 in the third period. The remainder of the game was scoreless leaving the game's final score at 4-2.
Riley Whitlock (Calgary, Alta.) had 12 saves and
David Aime (Clandeboye, Man.) stopped 24 shots for the Gaels. Francis Dupuis (Ottawa, Ont.) had 27 saves for the Ravens. The Gaels are now 5-6-2 in the regular season and Carleton is now 9-4-1.
The Gaels return to action Friday, November 24, as they host the Concordia Stingers at the Kingston Memorial Centre. Faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
