Riley Whitlock (Calgary, Alta.) had 24 saves for the Queen's Gaels in a 2-1 loss to the Ottawa Gee-Gees at the University of Ottawa Sports Complex.
Brendon MacDonald (Calgary, Alta.) opened the scoring for the Gaels just 14 seconds into the game with an unassisted goal. The remainder of the first period was scoreless with the Gaels outshooting the Gee-Gees 8-5.
The Gee-Gees took control offensively in the second period, opening the scoring for Ottawa at 3:35 with a goal by Trevor Layton (Wheaton Settlement, N.B.). The Gee-Gees outshot the Gaels 14-7 in the second period.
Queen's had a number of scoring opportunities in the third period, putting up 15 shots, however they were unable to capitalize. Ottawa took the lead at the 16:19 mark in the third period with a goal scored by Matthieu Tanguay-Theriault (Les Cèdres, Que.) bringing the game to its final score of 2-1.
Russell Abbott (Mill Bay, B.C.) had 29 saves for the Gee Gees. The Gaels are now 5-5-2, while the Gee-Gees move to 6-3-4.
The Gaels return to action on Saturday, November 24, as they face the Carleton Ravens. Faceoff is set for 3 p.m.
