BOX SCORE KINGSTON, Ont. – A dominant offensive game led the Queen's Gaels to a 3-1 win over the York Lions at the Kingston Memorial Centre, Saturday night.
The Gaels dominated the first period offensively, outshooting the Lions 18-4, but were unable to score. The Lions took over control offensively at the beginning of the second period. Off a scramble in front of the net, Chloe Milano (Maple, Ont.) was able to slide a shot past the defence, putting the Lions up 1-0. The Gaels fought back to regain control offensively, with a goal at 10:34 scored by
Katie Duncan (Kitchener, Ont.) on the right hand side of the net.
Kristin Smith (Toronto, Ont.) added another goal at 14:36 that bounced off the left post to the right post and in the net;
Allie Biglieri (Toronto, Ont.) and
Mary Coughlin (Amherstberg, Ont.) had the assists.
Morgan McHaffie (Guelph, Ont.) scored a goal for the Gaels late in the third period, putting the Gaels up 3-1 to secure the win;
Samantha Regier (Beachburg, Ont.) and
Alisha Sealey (Elora, Ont.) had assists.
Karissa Savage (Calgary, Alta.) had 21 saves for the Gaels and Megan Lee (Orillia, Ont.) stopped 43 shots for the Lions. The Gaels move to 10-1-1 in the regular season and the Lions are now 4-6-1.
The Gaels return to action Friday, November 16, as they host the Waterloo Warriors at the Kingston Memorial Centre. Faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
