The Queen's Gaels women's volleyball team defeated the Lakehead Thunderwolves 3-2 (26-24, 25-21, 23-15, 18-25, 15-12) in OUA league play on Saturday afternoon in the ARC Main Gym.  

The Queen's Gaels edged Lakehead in the first set, and came out on top in a second set that featured five lead changes and six ties. The Thunderwolves edged the Gaels in the third set, holding off a late Queen's charge, and forced the decider with a strong fourth set that saw them run out to a 17-5 lead and withstand another Queen's comeback attempt. In the fifth set, the teams were tied at 10-10 before the Gaels ran off four straight points to take a 14-10 lead.

Alexandra Heine (Calgary, Alta.) led the Gaels with an outstanding 24 kills, while Brett Hagarty (Aurora, Ont.) had 12 kills and 18 digs, and Colleen Ogilvie (Calgary, Alta) had 13 kills.  The Thunderwolves Vanessa Chorkawy had 19 kills and an ace, while Jorie Daymond and nine kills and an aces and Brittany Macleod had eight kills and two blocks.

With the win, the Gaels are 1-0, while Lakehead drops to 0-2. The Gaels return to action on Saturday, October 27 at 6 p.m. as they visit the York Lions in Toronto.
