| By:
KINGSTON, Ont. (September 21, 2011) – The Queen's Gaels (1-2) will look to continue their winning ways when they travel to Toronto this Saturday to take on the York Lions (1-2).

Saturday's game will be matchup number 14 between the Gaels and the Lions since 1971. The Gaels have dominated the historical series, winning all 13 games to date.

The Gaels offence came to life in last week's game against the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks as the team exploded for 58 points on offence and came away with a 58-35 victory.

Billy McPhee of Burlington, Ont. set career highs with 362 yards passing and four touchdowns. He also rushed for a score of his own on a six yard bootleg play in the first quarter. Giovanni Aprile of Toronto was the star of the afternoon on offence with 177 yards receiving and three touchdown reception in addition to 191 kick return yards and a 91 yard return touchdown on special teams. Aprile's production overshadowed the solid performance put in by running back Ryan Granberg of Sherwood Park, Alta. who had 145 net yards rushing on 30 carries. Granberg's 30 carries are the fourth highest by a Gaels running back in a single game.

The Gaels made a number of big plays on defence, forcing four interceptions. T.J. Chase-Dunawa of Toronto led the charge for the Gaels with two interceptions that both set up Gaels touchdowns on the ensuing drives. Andrew Lue of Markham, Ont. and Frank Pankewich of Thunder Bay, Ont. each had an interception as well. Derek Wiggan of Toronto had the lone Gaels sack of the afternoon and was a force on the defensive line with Osie Ukwuoma of Mississauga, Ont.

Dan Village kicked his second field goal of the season to move within one of the all-time Gaels career record held by Jamie Galloway at 47.

The Lions will be entering this contest with plenty of momentum as they will be celebrating homecoming on Saturday, one week after they won their first game since 2007. Lions kicker Heneri Dervishi of Toronto hit a field goal in overtime to propel the Lions past the Waterloo Warriors by a 20-18 score. Dimitar Sevdin of Toronto started at quarterback for the Lions and led their offensive effort with 174 yards passing, two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Most recently, when these two teams met in the 2010 regular season finale, the Gaels came out on top of the Lions by a 52-14 score to clinch a playoff berth. In that game Justin Chapdelaine of Abbotsford, B.C. threw for 448 yards and four touchdowns on 31 completions, and added a touchdown rushing the ball. Devan Sheahan of Kingston, Ont. was the Gaels top receiver on the afternoon with 166 yards receiving and two touchdowns on 14 receptions.

Kickoff between the Gaels and Lions is scheduled for 1:00 pm at York Stadium.
