Queen's falls short in 19-6 loss to Ottawa

BOX SCORE  OTTAWA (September 10, 2011) – The Ottawa Gee-Gees (2-0) dropped the Queen's Gaels (0-2) 19-6 during week two play of OUA football.

Aaron Colbon of Orleans, Ont., went 9 for 25 throwing for 146-yards and two touchdowns to lead Ottawa to its second straight win this season. The loss leaves Queen's winless in their first two games of the 2011 campaign. The Gaels have now dropped their last two games against Ottawa.

The Gee-Gees Brendan Gillanders of Orleans, Ont. rushed for 161 yards on the day which included a 30 yard dash to close out the game.

The Gaels Dan Village of Abbotsford, B.C. hit an early 47-yard field goal to give Queen's a 3-0 lead but a 15 point second quarter for the Gee-Gees would be enough for Ottawa put the game out of reach. Ottawa scored two touchdowns in an eight minute stretch when Colbon tossed a 47-yard touchdown pass down the sidelines to Bogdan Raic of Ottawa before finding an open Simon Le Marquand of Gatineau, Que. for a 17 yard touchdown just before the half.

Village now sits only two field goals behind Jamie Galloway for first in Queen's all-time history.

Billy McPhee of Burlington, Ont. went 20 for 40 throwing for 208-yards in his second start of the season while Giovanni Aprile of Toronto had a solid debut making four catches for 53-yards.

Defensively, Queen's was led by Ottawa native Stephen Laporte who had eight tackles on the day, while Frank Pankewich of Thunder Bay, Ont. had six in the loss. For the Gee-Gees Chris Daly of Burlington, Ont. and Tyler Sawyer of Metcalfe, Ont. each had six tackles.

Next week the Gaels return home to face the No. 8 Wilfred Laurier Golden Hawks (1-0) at Richardson Stadium in Kingston with kickoff set for 1:00pm.

NOTES: This is the first time since the 2004 season that the Gaels have started the season with two straight losses… that year Queen's finished 2-6… Queen's has yet to score a touchdown in their two games… The Gaels are 6-6 in road openers under coach Sheahan... The highest point total ever scored by a Gaels team against the Gee-Gees is 52 (1984,1991)... The highest amount ever conceded by a Gaels team against the Gee-Gees is 57 (1975)
