TORONTO (February 6, 2011) – With first place in the OUA East division on the line, the Queen's Gaels women's volleyball team came up short losing in straight sets to the York Lions Sunday afternoon in Toronto.
Set scores were 18-25, 18-25, 18-25.
The Gaels struggled to get their offence in gear the whole match, committing 22 attack errors and nine service errors to the Lions 15 attack errors and five service errors.
Thinesa Sriskandarajah and Sarah Sutton, both of Scarborough, Ont., were the top offensive players in the match for the Lions, each recording nine kills. Sriskandarajah also led York defensively with 10 digs and two blocks.
Katie Matthews of Aurora, Ont., was the top player for Queen's as she picked up seven kills and four total blocks.
With the loss, the Gaels see their record fall to 11-5 on the season while the Lions secured their hold on first place in the OUA East improving to 13-4.
Queen's will look to get back in the win column Wednesday night when they travel to Ottawa to take on the Gee-Gees. Match time is set for 7:00pm.
