TORONTO (February 5, 2011) – The Queen's Gaels women's volleyball team improved their record to 11-4 with a 3-0 sweep over the Ryerson Rams on Saturday. Set scores were 25-14, 25-20 and 25-23.
Katie Matthews of Aurora, Ont., had 15 points in the win including nine kills, five blocks and an ace. She also tallied two digs in the win. Matthew's nine kills were a game high.
Lorna Button of Newcastle, Ont., secured 12 points while
Natalie Gray of Oshawa, Ont., finished with 11 points. Button and Gray both tallied eight kills in the win.
Setter
Julie Lockwood of Calgary had 22 assists while
Anna Pedjase of Waterloo, Ont., contributed 12 assists.
Ryerson was led by Jessica Broad of Courtice, Ont., who had 11 points on seven kills, three aces and one block.
Queen's is in third place of the OUA East Division two points behind York and Ottawa who are both tied for first place. The Gaels will face York tomorrow at 2:00pm in Toronto.
The Gaels have played in 15 games while Ottawa has played 18 and York has played 16. Queen's faces York tomorrow and then Ottawa on February 9. They close the regular season at home on February 12 & 13 against McMaster and Guelph respectively.
