Gaels bow out in OUA Quarter-finals to Gee-Gees

| By:
OTTAWA (February 19, 2011) – Despite getting 14 kills from Natalie Fisher of Burlington, Ont., the Queen's Gaels women's volleyball team saw their season come to an end as they lost in three straight sets to the Ottawa Gee-Gees Saturday evening.

Set scores were 23-25, 23-25, 20-25.

After the first two sets were decided by just two points, the Gaels could not overcome a balanced Gee-Gees attack in the third set, their final set of the 2010-11 season.

Three Gee-Gees recorded 10 or more kills in the match, led by Laura Carmanico's (Ottawa) 13. Myriam English of Orleans, Ont., added 10 kills, nine digs and two blocks while Kayla Bell Hammond of North Gower, Ont., also finished the match with 10.

In addition to Fisher's 14 kills and eight digs, Natalie Gray of Oshawa, Ont., recorded eight kills to go along with a match-high 11 digs. Fourth year middle Katie Matthews of Aurora, Ont., playing in possibly her final match with the Gaels, also had eight kills.

The defeat marks the second time in three seasons that the Gaels have bowed out of the OUA playoffs in the quarter-final round and follows last season's fourth place finish at the OUA Final Four tournament.
