Moore, Bannister named TELUS Athletes of the Week

| By:
KINGSTON, Ont. (February 14, 2011) – Queen's Athletics & Recreation is pleased to announce that women's basketball player Brittany Moore of Hannon, Ont., and men's basketball player Dan Bannister of Newmarket, Ont., have been named the TELUS Athletes of the Week for the week ending February 13.

Moore was the Gaels offensive catalyst this past weekend as Queen's swept York and Laurentian to qualify for the OUA playoffs. With the Gaels needing to win both games, the fourth year physical and health education major scored 21 points to go along with four assists and three rebounds in Queen's 74-67 victory over the Lions. Saturday, Moore led Queen's back from a 10 point first quarter deficit against Laurentian, recording 24 points, five rebounds and two assists, as the Gaels won 65-62. It is the first time this season that the OUA's fourth leading scorer has recorded 20+ points in both weekend games.

Bannister helped the Gaels set a new Queen's record this past weekend in men's basketball. The fourth year philosophy major averaged 23 points, eight assists and 4.5 rebounds as the Gaels scored 100+ points in consecutive games for the first time in school history. The OUA's fourth leading scorer opened the weekend dropping a career-high 32 points to go along with six assists and five rebounds in Queen's 102-64 win over York. Bannister followed up that performance with his first double-double of the year as he scored 14 points and added 10 assists in the Gaels 101-92 overtime win over Laurentian. Queen's has now surpassed the 100 point barrier eight times since the team began playing in 1903.
