KINGSTON, Ont. (February 13, 2011) – The Queen's Gaels women's volleyball team (12-7) dropped their final contest of the regular season as they lost in four sets to the Guelph Gryphons (16-3) Sunday afternoon at the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC).
Set scores were 17-25, 25-17, 12-25, 20-25.
After the two teams split the first two sets, the Gryphons took over in the third before closing out the fourth set to earn the victory.
Kylen Van Osch of Exeter, Ont., led the Gryphons with 13 kills and two solo blocks on the day while Claire Sandor of Waterloo, Ont., chipped in with 11 kills and eight digs.
The Gaels top player was
Natalie Gray of Oshawa, Ont., who recorded 10 kills, eight digs and four service aces.
Katie Matthews of Aurora, Ont., and
Natalie Fisher of Burlington, Ont., each added seven kills for Queen's.
With the loss, the Gaels finish third in the OUA East and will be on the road for their OUA Quarter-final next Saturday, February 19 where they will take on the Ottawa Gee-Gees. The two teams split the season series with each squad winning on their home court.
