KINGSTON, Ont. (November 5, 2011) - The Queen's Gaels came out on the other side of one of their most gruelling road trips of the season undefeated having lost only one set as they defeated the Western Mustangs 3-1 on Saturday. Set scores were 27-25, 25-27, 25-17, 25-21.
The first set was a see-saw battle as the two teams traded points throughout the set. The Gaels pulled ahead late in the frame and emerged with the set victory.
The Mustangs evened the game after the second set with a strong comeback. The Gaels took a 16-8 lead, but Western evened the set at 20 and came away with the set.
The Gaels were very strong on offence in the third set and forced Western to play their top defensive game. Queen's was ultimately overwhelming for the Mustangs who didn't have an answer for the Gaels attack.
The fourth set was another back and forth affair as the two teams traded points throughout the set. The Gaels went on a run late in the frame and ultimately clinched the game with a 25-21 victory in the fourth.
Becky Billings of Ottawa and
Natalie Gray of Oshawa, Ont. were the leaders for the Gaels as they put in strong efforts on offence and defence.
The Gaels return to action on Friday when they travel to Guelph to take on the Gryphons on November 11. Start time is set for 6:00 pm.
