Gaels Remember as basketball opens 2011-12 season

| By:
KINGSTON, Ont. (November 11, 2011) - With the Queen's Gaels opening their basketball season tonight in the Main Gym of the ARC, the team will be honouring Canadian veterans for Remembrance Day.

Prior to the tip-off of tonight's men's basketball game between the Queen's Gaels and the visiting Lakehead Thunderwolves, the Gaels will honour those who have served for Canada with a moment of silence and ceremonial tip off before the game gets underway.

Joining the Gaels on behalf of the Canadian Forces is Michelle Poirier who began her involvement with the military in 1980 and was in active service until 2002. She has served in every province in Canada, in addition to spending time overseas. A Queen's alumnus, she has since been involved with the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Defence Academy and is currently a case manager for Veteran Affairs Canada in the Kingston community.

The Gaels and Thunderwolves get things underway at 6:00 pm tonight in women's basketball action prior to the men taking the court at 8:00 pm.
