Gaels fall 3-1 to Gee-Gees in opener

| By:
OTTAWA (October 27, 2011) - Becky Billings of Ottawa had a team high 13 kills but it ultimately wasn't enough as the Gaels (0-1) fell to the Ottawa Gee-Gees (2-1) by a 3-1 scoreline. Set scores were 25-22, 17-25, 25-13 and 25-19.

A young Gaels squad opened their season on the road and played a tough game against their Ottawa rivals but ultimately couldn't do enough to come away with the win in their 2011 debut. After outscoring the Gee-Gees through the first two sets, a tough third set set the Gaels back and they couldn't recover in time to earn the road win.

Billings led the way for the Gaels on offence and defence with her 13 kills and .344 kill percentage - both game highs. She also had a strong showing on defence with 14 digs to lead the Gaels. Kelsey Bishop of North Vancouver, B.C. had a strong showing for the Gaels with a 10 point effort. Natalie Gray of Oshawa, Ont. and Katie Hagarty of Aurora, Ont. were next in line for the Gaels with 9.5 points apiece. Anna Pedjase of Waterloo, Ont. was the focal point of the passing game with 35 assists.

The Gaels will look to rebound from the loss in their home opener on October 28 against the RMC Paladins. Start time is scheduled for 6:00 pm in the Main Gym of the ARC.
