Gaels suffer setback as they lose in four sets to RMC

KINGSTON, Ont. (Janaury 30, 2011) – The Queen's Gaels women's volleyball team dropped their fourth game of the season as they lost on the road to the RMC Paladins in four sets Sunday afternoon.

Set scores were 16-25, 25-22, 18-25, 24-26.

The Paladins key to victory was a balanced and efficient offensive attack. Three players contributed seven or more kills in the win while the team committed only six attacking errors. The Gaels, on the other hand, committed 19 attacking errors.

Chelsey Litjens of Ottawa, led the Paladins with eight kills, six digs and three solo blocks in the win while twin sister Mallory Litjens of Ottawa, chipped in five kills, 11 digs and six solo blocks.

The Gaels top performer on the day was Lorna Button of Newcastle, Ont., who recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 22 digs. Natalie Gray of Oshawa, Ont., also had a strong match with nine kills and 25 digs.

The loss drops Queen's record to 10-4 on the season as they remain two points behind the York Lions for top spot in the OUA East. The Paladins see their record improve to 6-9 as they hold down the fourth spot in the OUA East.

Queen's will continue their season high four-game road trip next Saturday when they head to Toronto to battle the Ryerson Rams. Game time is set for 1:00 pm.
