Gaels sweep aside Warriors in straight sets

KINGSTON, Ont. (January 15, 2011) – The Queen's Gaels women's volleyball team used a balance offensive attack as they swept the Waterloo Warriors in straight sets (25-19, 25-12, 25-22) Saturday afternoon at the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC).

With the win, the Gaels improved to 8-1 on the season and match their season-high win streak of four games. As for the Warriors, they fall to 3-7 on the year.

Three different Gaels recorded a team-high six kills in the match, including Lorna Button of Newcastle, Ont., Katie Neville of Cambridge, Ont., and Katie Matthews of Aurora, Ont.

Defensively, Matthews also had another excellent effort for Queen's as she picked up a match high four solo blocks, giving her a CIS-leading 29 on the season. Natalie Gray of Oshawa, Ont., was also a strong defender for Queen's as she picked up a match-high 13 digs.

Danielle Kamps of Vineland Station, Ont., was the top player on the afternoon for Waterloo as she recorded a match-high seven kills.

Queen's will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when they host the Laurier Golden Hawks at the ARC. Game time is set for 12:00 pm.
