KINGSTON, Ont. (September 25, 2010) – The Queen's men's rugby team could not overcome a strong first half from the Western Mustangs as they lost 31-15 Saturday afternoon at Kingston Field.
The game, which was a rematch of the 2009 OUA Championship, saw the Mustangs score four consecutive trys in the first half after the Gaels claimed an early lead on a penalty goal by
Daniel Moor of Toronto.
Myles Dingwall of Ottawa, scored late in the first half to give the Gaels life heading into the second half.
However, Western would solidify the result in the 32nd minute of the second half with a try from Nik Paukennan. A late try from
Burke MacDonald of Cornwall, Ont., rounded out the scoring on the day.
The loss marks the first time that Queen's has lost to Western since the 2006 OUA Semifinal, a stretch of six games.
Following the game, the Gaels held their Hall of Fame Dinner where they honoured their 2010 induction class. In all eight players will be inducted, including Bruce Pappas (Manotick, Ont.), Warren Smith (Consecon, Ont.), Geoff Cooper (Ottawa), Lee Doney (Victoria, B.C.), Andrew Page (Iowa Falls, Iowa), Ian Middleton (Kanata, Ont.), Jim Davies and Steve Elliott (Gananoque, Ont).
