TORONTO (September 11, 2010) – The No. 4 Queen's Gaels took an early lead against the University Toronto Varsity Blues and never looked back as they cruised to their third straight win to open the season.
After three goals in the first half, the Gaels clamped down defensively and a shut out performance by goalkeeper
Chantel Marson, of London Ont., left them with a 3-0 win.
Riley Filion, of Alexandria Ont., scored the Gaels first goal within the first two minutes of the game.
Kelli Chamberlain, of North Bay Ont., widened the lead with a goal several minutes later.
A through ball from
Jennifer Hutchinson, of St. John's Nfld., found the sliding foot of Jacqueline Tessier, of Winnipeg Man., for the Gaels final goal later in the first half. Tessier leads the OUA in scoring with seven goals in regular season play.
The Gaels last met the Varsity Blues in pre-season play during the Old Four Tournament hosted at Queen's earlier this month. The Gaels lost 2-0 in that match-up.
The win over the Varsity Blues improves the Gaels regular season record to 3-0 as they begin an early season win streak.
The Gaels next game is tomorrow at 1:00 PM against the Ryerson Rams in Toronto.
