Mustangs top Gaels in shootout

| By:
KINGSTON, Ont. (December 4, 2010) – Ellie Seedhouse of Whitby, Ont., scored in the fourth round of the shootout as the Western Mustangs slipped past the Queen's Gaels 3-2 Saturday night at the Kingston Memorial Centre.

Seedhouse's goal was the only one scored in the shootout as the Mustangs rallied from a 2-1 first period deficit to pick up their fourth win of the season.

After the Mustangs opened the scoring in the first period on a goal by Carly Rolph of Guelph, Ont., the Gaels responded quickly with two goals from first year players. Emily Harrison of Calgary, would tied the game with her first career goal before Shawna Griffin of Redwood Meadows, Alta., also scored her first to give Queen's a 2-1 lead after one.

Late in the second period, Western would tie the game when Katie Dillon of Oshawa, Ont., found the back of the Gaels net with less than a minute to play to even the score at two.

The two teams would remain tied through the third period and overtime, forcing a shootout.

Western's Jessica Ulrich of Keswick, Ont., made 45 saves in the victory well Karissa Savage of Calgary, turned aside 21 shots in the loss.

The Gaels record drops to 6-6-4 on the season but the single point moved them into a tie for fifth in the OUA standings with the Windsor Lancers who lost to UOIT earlier in the night. Western improves to 4-11-1 and remain in ninth place in the OUA.

The Gaels will now break for the Christmas holidays and will be back in action on January 8th when they travel to Waterloo to take on the Warriors. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
