KINGSTON, Ont. (October 30, 2010) - Dan Moor of Toronto continued his exceptional 2010 season with a seven point performance to lead the Queen's Gaels past the Guelph Gryphons by a 44-0 score in OUA quarter-final action.
The Gaels controlled the match from the start as Guelph could not consistently hold possession in the Queen's half. Queen's scored early and often as tries from
Mike Wong (Barrie, Ont.),
Matt Kelly (Toronto), and
Scott Kyle (Singapore) with a convert and penalty goal from Moor gave the Gaels a 20-0 lead late in the first half.
The second half of the match was more of the same for the Gaels as they drew out the lead even further. Captain
Henry McQueen (Vancouver) was the first to score with a try, and he was soon joined by
Burke MacDonald (Cornwall, Ont.), John Guichon (Toronto), and
Brendan McGovern (Ottawa) who added tries of their own. Moor added his second convert of the game after the MacDonald try and
David Worsley (Vancouver) added a conversion after the McGovern effort.
With the victory the Gaels advance to the OUA Semi-finals and will take on the McMaster Marauders in Hamilton, Ontario next Saturday.
The Gaels have played the Marauders once this season, when they dropped a close 25-18 game on the road. Queen's will be looking to make up for the disappointing loss with a victory to earn a trip to defend their OUA Championship.
The Gaels will take on the Marauders on November 6 at McMaster. Start time is set for 2:00 pm.
