KINGSTON, Ont. (January 31, 2010) - The Queen's Gaels women's hockey team completed their season sweep of the University of Ontario Ridgebacks Sunday, dominating the last place Ridgebacks 5-2.

Morgan McHaffie (Guelph, Ont.) and Kristin Smith (Toronto, Ont.) led the Gaels charge with two goals apiece while Elizabeth Kench (Gananoque, Ont) did her part chipping in three assists. With the win, the Gaels stay in second place in the OUA standings three points ahead of third place York who plays later Sunday.

The Gaels' Megan McNutt (Ottawa, Ont.) opened the scoring 8:29 into the first period with her second of the season. UOIT answered quickly only 50 seconds later, but McHaffie netted her first of the game just under two minutes later giving the Gaels a lead they would maintain for the balance of the contest.

The Gael's scored the only two goals in the second period with McHaffie scoring her 14th of the season and second of the game 9:47 into the period. Smith put another in the back of the net a mere 28 seconds later to put the Gaels up 4-1. The Gaels had the lead and the momentum and never looked back.

Smith scored her 11th of the season 13:23 into the third period to round out the Gaels scoring outburst.

Mel Dodd-Moher (Stittsville, Ont.) was superb in net turning away 21 shots in the third period alone to keep the Gaels ahead. Dodd-Moher stopped 41 out of 43 shots earning her 11th victory of the season bringing her record to 11-5-1.

The Gaels now sit in second place in the OUA standing with a record of 16-5-2 still eight points behind the flawless Laurier Golden Hawks who are still undefeated after a 21st consecutive victory on Sunday.

That game will take place on Saturday, February 6th at 2:30 at the Memorial Centre. The Gaels will then close out their regular season home schedule on Sunday, February 7th with a visit from the sixth place Western Mustangs (9-11-4). That game will also take place at 2:30 at the Memorial Center.
