Gaels on wrong end of 3-1 tilt

| By:
TORONTO (September 6, 2009) – The women's soccer team was unable to grab back-to-back wins in Toronto over the weekend, falling 3-1 to the Toronto Varsity Blues.

Down 1-0 after Blues striker Jessica Fantozzi netted her first of two tallies on the night, the Gaels equalized, as first year striker Jacqueline Tessier of Winnipeg, Man. pounced on a loose ball and buried it in the bottom left corner. Strong play allowed the Gaels to keep the score tied at the end the first forty-five.

Gaels' goalkeeper Leny Corry of Hamilton, Ont., was busy throughout the match, as Toronto pressed hard at the beginning of both halves. However, she was unable to prevent 2008 OUA East MVP Erica Basso from putting the Varsity Blues in the lead before Fantozzi added the insurance goal.

The Gaels return to Kingston at 1-1 to start the season, and look to rematch with Toronto on September 13th (1:00) at Richardson Stadium. The Gaels also host an exhibition contest against Queen's Alumni on September 12th.
