Men's Ultimate places 5th at Canadian Eastern University Championship

| By:
KINGSTON, Ont. (September 28, 2009) - With only one week of practice under their belts since tryouts, Queen's Men's Ultimate team headed to London, ON to compete in the Canadian Eastern University Ultimate Championships. After eschewing the Championships last fall to compete in the US, they faced a poor seed and a tough path.

In pool play, the suffered one disappointing loss to the Carleton Ravens, 9-8, but finished Saturday with only the one loss, thanks to convincing wins over Waterloo and Western's B-teams and a spot in the quarterfinals.

Awaiting them Sunday morning in the first quarterfinal match was three-time Easterns and National champions, the University of Toronto. Toronto had started their three-peat of Easterns championships three years ago with a hotly contested universe point win over Queen's in Guelph, and Queen's had yet to return to the finals. Their chance this year would yet again run through Toronto.

Queen's came out strong, but went into the half down 8-7. The second half proved too short to mount their comeback, and Queen's fell 10-9. Determined not to let this shake their resolve for a national championship, they picked their game back up in the consolation games, and finished the weekend strong, with a 5th place finish and a 15-2 win over the Ottawa Gee-Gees.
