KINGSTON, Ont. (September 27, 2009) – The Gaels field hockey team took to the road and visited Western for a three-game weekend series against the Western Mustangs, York Lions, and Waterloo Warriors.
Unfortunately, the team failed to register a victory and heads back to Kingston still winless.
In Saturday's game, Queen's took on the host Western Mustangs, suffering a 4-0 loss. Leading by one after the half, the Mustangs added three more goals in the second to put the match out of reach. The Gaels gave up three of the goals on penalty corners, adding some sting to the defeat. Western's Michelle Weber had two goals for the hosts.
The Gaels opened play on Sunday with a 2-0 loss to the York Lions. The Lion's Effie Petrou and Jessica Rootes both had goals.
The Gaels finished their road trip with a 5-1 loss to the Waterloo Warriors.
Emily Newton of Vancouver B.C., scored the only goal for the Gaels, her second of the season.
The Gaels return home with a record of 0-5-1, and host next weekend's set of OUA field hockey games. Queen's faces Carleton, Guelph, and Waterloo in hopes of grabbing their first win of the season on home turf.
