Gaels victorious in final regular season outing

Gaels finish the 2008-09 regular season with a victory
Kingston, Ont. (February 7, 2009) – Queen's women's volleyball finished up the 2008-09 regular season on Saturday, narrowly defeating the Ryerson Rams 3-2 inside Bartlett Gymnasium.

Katie Matthews of Aurora, Ont., and Colleen Ogilvie of Calgary produced 21 points each in the victory as the Gaels captured their 10th win of the season with sets scores 21-25, 25-23, 25-15, 23-25, and 15-13. Ogilvie had a game high 17 kills, recording two aces and two blocks while Matthews had a game high nine blocks, along with 11 kills and three aces for Queen's.

Setter's Kristin Collins of Whitby, Ont., and rookie Julie Lockwood of Calgary spilt the duties for the Gaels producing 20 and 33 assists respectively.

Ryerson challenged the Gaels all night, which saw three sets finish with a two point difference including the final set. Kasandra Bracken of Sherwood Park, Alta led in scoring for the Rams finishing with five kills, six blocks and an ace for 12 points.

Queen's finishes in fourth place in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) east division with a record of 10-9 and will challenge the first place York Lions in the OUA Quarter-Finals on Saturday, February 14. The one-game playoff is scheduled to be held in Toronto. York finished a top the OUA East with a record of 18-1 giving up their only loss to McMaster earlier tonight.
