Ravens end women’s basketball’s season

Gaels fall to Carleton in OUA East Playoff on Wednesday
Ottawa (February 18, 2009) – Queen's women's basketball season came to a halt on Wednesday as the Carleton Ravens defeated the Gaels 53-42 during the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) east playoff game.

Queen's Kendra Walker-Roche of Brockville, Ont., led all players with 14 points dropping four of five three point attempts in the loss. Anne Murphy of Milford, Ont., added seven points and five rebounds in her final game with the Gaels.

Carleton's defense held Brittany Moore of Hannon, Ont. to just six points, far below her 17.8 per game average. Just last week, Moore finished the 2008-09 campaign as the league's second best scorer with 392 points.

The Raven's offense came from Ines Jelic of London, Ont., and Ashleigh Cleary of Kemptville, Ont.. Both players registered 12 points in the game with Cleary grabbing 11 rebounds while Jelic was six of eight from the line.

Carleton advances to the OUA quarter finals facing their cross town rival and second seeded Ottawa Gee-Gees.

Queen's season concludes with a 7-15 regular season record finishing sixth in the OUA east division. Moore, in her second season with the Gaels finished tied for second in the nation in three pointers with 61 while leading the Gaels in scoring. Alaina Porter of Burlington, Ont.,  was Queen's second leading scorer producing 201 while Erin Skippon of Kelowna, B.C. led the Gaels in rebounds with 133 in 20 games played.
