Underwood scores twice leading Queen’s to OUA championship

KINGSTON, Ont. (November 7, 2009) – The Queen's Gaels men's rugby team advanced to the OUA championship as they defeated the McMaster Marauders by the score of 17-10 Saturday afternoon at Kingston Field on campus at Queen's University.

Liam Underwood of Toronto recorded two tries for a total of 10 points while Ryan Kruyne of Dunrobin, Ont., tallied seven points off two conversions and a penalty goal. With the win, the Gaels maintain their undefeated season and now have a perfect 9-0 record heading into the OUA championship.

Lucas Mcivor of Guelph, Ont., scored the only try for McMaster while Shawn Windsor of Stoney Creek, Ont., added three points on a penalty goal

Next week Queen's will contend against the Western Mustangs who dumped Brock convincingly 24-3 in the other OUA semifinal on Saturday. The two rivals will clash on Saturday, Nov. 14 at 2:00pm in Markham, Ont., at Fletcher's Field Rugby Park.

Queen's will be seeking its first championship since 2001-02 when they topped the Western Mustangs in the OUA championship 25-19 after completing the season a perfect 8-0.

NOTES: Next week's appearance in the OUA final marks the third consecutive year the Gaels have played in the championship game… For the fifth straight season, the Gaels will close their schedule by playing in an OUA championship or OUA bronze medal game at Fletchers Field.
