KINGSTON Ont. (November 21, 2009) – Colleen Ogilvie of Calgary, Alta., had 14 kills and 2 blocks as the Gaels defeated the Ryerson Rams 3-1 in Bartlett Gymnasium Saturday evening.
Ogilvie has now recorded 28 kills over two games this weekend against Toronto and Ryerson.
The Gaels came out strong in the first set leaving the Rams behind early, easily winning the set 25-14.
The Rams caught on by the second set, however, and with some strong hits from Rams Lindsay Franco, the Rams narrowly beat the Gaels 25-23.
The Gaels had a balanced attack in the final two sets to win them both 25-18 and 25-15 respectively.
Lorna Button of Newcastle, Ont., led the teams in digs with 14, as well as having nine kills. Katie Matthews of Aurora, Ont., also had a great game in all aspects with eight kills, four blocks and five digs. The hitting success of the Gaels can be contributed to the strong setting of Gaels' setter Kristin Collins of Whitby, Ont., who had 30 assists in the 3 sets she played.
The win over Ryerson improves the Gaels record to 4-4. The Gaels next game is on January 9, 2010 against Wilfrid Laurier in Waterloo.
