KINGSTON, Ont. (November 13, 2009) – The Queen's Gaels women's hockey team fired 48 shots on York goalie Sydney McMurter in a 4-1 loss on Friday night at the Kingston Memorial Centre.
The Gaels found themselves down 2-1 after the first period of play but picked up their game in the second as they fired 23 shots at McMurter. However, the York goalie was there to deny the Gaels every time.
Queen's continued to pressure in the third period but it would be the Lions who would extend their lead to two goals when Danielle Beach jammed home a rebound past Queen's goalie
Mel Dodd-Moher of Stittsville, Ont. The Lions would ice the game late in the third with an empty net goal.
Dodd-Moher made 32 saves for the Gaels who fall to 6-2-1 on the season while the Lions improve their record to 4-3-0.
Jess Cone of Winnipeg, Man., scored Queen's lone goal when she netted her first of the season in the first period.
The Gaels will look to rebound from the loss tomorrow afternoon when they take to the ice against the Toronto Varsity Blues. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:30 pm.
