KINGSTON, ONT. (October 25, 2009) - The Gaels field hockey team closed out their season in Mississauga, Ont. against the Western Mustangs, losing 4-0 to end the season at 2-10-2 for 7th place in the OUA and just outside of the playoffs.
Western, who finished the season at 8-4-2, good for 3rd in the OUA, were led by Elsbeth Tate (Richmond, B.C.) who had two goals in game. Michelle Weber (Ilderton, Ont.) and Megan Scraper (West Vancouver, B.C.) were the other goal scorers for the Mustangs.
It is the second-straight season that the Gaels have finished out of the playoffs.
Emily Newton of Vancouver, B.C., led the Gaels in scoring this season with four goals while
Casey Tulk of Kingston, Ont., was the only other player to record more than one goal. Newton's four goals were good enough to place her 13th in the OUA in scoring.
Both of the Gaels victories this season came over the Carleton Ravens while they twice played to a tie against McGill.
