THUNDER BAY, Ont. (October 24, 2009) – The Queen's women's volleyball team won their season-opener on Saturday afternoon with a three sets to one (21-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-20) victory over the Lakehead Thunderwolves.
After dropping the first set, the Gaels turned their game around and won three straight to earn the victory.
Queen's received outstanding efforts from
Natalie Gray of Oshawa, Ont., and
Katie Matthews of Aurora, Ont. Both women recorded 10 kills in the game, with Gray picking up 10 points and Matthews, a game high, 14.
Another Gael who had a solid game was
Elyssa Heller of Highland Park, Ill. Heller, who is coming back from a knee injury suffered last season, led the team in digs with 30 while chipping in with seven kills and nine points.
These two teams will square off again tomorrow afternoon in Thunder Bay. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
