Gaels wrap up second-straight unbeaten regular season

| By:
KINGSTON, Ont. (October 24, 2009) - The Queen's men's rugby team smashed the Laurier Golden Hawks 74-8 to finish their season a perfect 8-0.

The Queen's Gaels stand as the only undefeated team in the OUA rugby 2009-2010 regular season, and for good reason. Queen's set the pace in today's game when Alistair Clark of Oakville, Ont., opened the scoring in the fifth minute. Queen's soon established a lead they would never loose. In the next ten minutes of play, two trys were scored by Liam Underwood of Toronto with Chris Barrett of Vancouver, adding another. Ryan Kruyne of Dunrobin Ont., completed all three conversions following the scores.

With two man tackles, consistent turnovers and an impenetrable defense, there was no stopping the Gaels on this afternoon. Underwood, Graeme Dibden of Edmonton, and Randolph Curtis of Cobourg, Ont., each followed with a try in the first half and two conversions added by Kruyne.

The second half quickly assumed the momentum of the first with a 40 yard run into Laurier's end zone by Tim Richardson of Vancouver, in the first 10 minutes of play. Matt Kelly of Toronto, Ont., came onto the field late but carrying heat, scoring two tries. Graeme Whyte of Whitby, Ont., and Zach Pancer of Unionville, Ont., both recorded with two conversions by Underwood.

Daniel Moor's (Toronto, Ont) 30 yard sprint home in the last 3 minutes was merely a bonus as the Gaels finished their regular season undefeated with a 74-8 victory over Laurier.

Queen's has been awarded a bye this weekend and will host the OUA Semifinals on Saturday, November 7th.
