Gaels edge Guelph in five sets

Kingston, Ont. (January 11, 2009) - Coming off a heartbreaking five-set loss to McMaster yesterday afternoon the Gaels found themselves in another five-set match, but this time they would be victorious 3-2 over the Guelph Gryphons.

The Gaels' 20-25, 25-20, 25-18, 23-25, 15-7 win, moves them back to the .500 mark (6-6) and into a tie with the University of Toronto in the OUA East.

Elyssa Heller of Highland Park, Ill., USA and Colleen Ogilvie of Calgary both finished with 15 kills for 15 points to lead the Gaels .  Queen's had a balanced offence with five players recording double digit points. Second year Setter Kristin Collins of Whitby, Ont. had a game high 51 assists along with six digs and two kills.

Claire Sanders of Waterloo, Ont., hit 18 kills for 21 points for the Gryphons. Kylen Van Osch of Exeter, Ont. produced 13 points on 12 kills and one block.

Queen's have a full seven-day break hosting the Lakehead Thunderwolves next Sunday. Currently, Lakehead is in sixth place and 10 points behind the Gaels.   The game is set for 2:00pm inside Bartlett Gymnasium. Tickets are available at 613.532.2500.
