Katie Matthews of Aurora, Ont. recorded 10 kills and one service ace as the Queen's Gaels defeated cross-town rival Royal Military College (RMC) 3-0 in Ontario University Athletics (OUA) women's volleyball action on Saturday.
With the win, the Gaels moved their record to 2-3 and have recorded two consecutive victories since opening the season 0-3. The Gaels are tied for third place in the OUA East with four points. Queen's has looked sharp in its past two victories without surrendering a set to either of its opponents (Ryerson and RMC).
Matthews led today's contest with kills while recording a .770 kill percentage – tops in the game.
Natalie Gray of Oshawa, Ont. had nine kills for a total of nine points while setter
Kristin Collins of Whitby, Ont. recorded a game leading nine digs and 27 assists.
Queen's dominated the opening set earning a 25-6 advantage to take the first match. Queen's then rattled off 25-14 and 25-11 victories to win easily 3-0.
The York Lions will visit the Gaels next week on November 14. The match is set for 6:00pm at Bartlett Gymnasium inside the Physical Education Centre at Queen's University.
