Kingston, Ont. (November 8, 2008) –
Anne Murphy of Milford, Ont. recorded her first double-double of the season to help the Gaels earn a 20-point victory over the visiting Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday night. The final score was 89-69 with Queen's posting their second win of the season.
Murphy was the game's leading rebounder with13 boards to go along with 22-points. She was deadly from the free-throw line dropping 12 of 14 attempts.
In all, Queen's had three scorers reach 20 points and four post 10 or more.
Brittany Moore of Hannon, Ont. was the Gaels top scorer dropping 24-points including a perfect eight for eight from the free-throw line. Fourth-year student-athlete Kendra Roche-Walker also recorded 20 points while
Lyndsey Gauley of Belleville, Ont. had 11 points in the Gaels victory.
Queen's would take a 37-33 lead into halftime, and then would pull ahead by seven heading into the fourth. The Gaels would distance themselves from the Hawks exploding for 29 points in the final frame and keep Laurier's offence to just 16.
Amanda MacDonald of Sudbury, Ont. was Laurier's top scorer recording 16 points. Three Golden Hawks pushed into double digit scoring including MacDonald, Renata Adamczyk of Dundas, Ont. and Christa Mancino of Port Colborne, Ont. Adamczyk and Mancino posted 14 and 11 points respectively.
Queen's improves its record to 2-1 in the young 2008-09 season and sit in a four-way tie for second place of the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) east division.
Next week Queen's will visit Guelph to take on the Gryphon's on November 14. On Saturday, Queen's will meet Brock in St. Catharines, Ont.
