Guelph, Ont. (November 14, 2008) –
Baris Ondul of Istanbul, Turkey recorded 27 points in the Gaels 70-64 victory over the Guelph Gryphons Friday evening.
Ondul was key to the Gaels victory with regular offensive contributor
Mitch Leger of Kingston running into early foul trouble. Ondul would step up and hit six of his eight three point attempts along with eight field goals in a winning effort.
Ryan Hairsine of St. Marys, Ont. would also put up impressive numbers having 19 points and three rebounds.
Queen's second-half effort was the key in the victory as they would trail at half by five and would cut the margin down to two entering the final frame. The Gaels would come out strong in the fourth outscoring the Gryphons 23-15 for the win.
Friday's game would also see a new face on the court for the Gaels, but not unfamiliar to Queen's football fans as
Scott Stinson of North Bay, Ont. would suit up for his first game with the basketball team. Stinson, who just finished an impressive final season with the football team as a first-string receiver, has now turned his focus to helping the Gaels on the hardwood. The 6'7” forward played 13 minutes in his debut pulling down five rebounds.
Queen's will play again tomorrow night on the road travelling to St. Catharines, Ont. to play the Brock Badgers who are the defending CIS national champions. Tipoff is schedule for 8:00pm
