Kingston, Ont. (October 18, 2008) Queen's and Ryerson met at Richardson Stadium and fought a hard match up which ended up tied 1-1.
With the regular season coming to a close this weekend every game is important for the men's soccer team as they are in battle with Ryerson and Trent for home field advantage in the post-season.
Today's game was no exception. This was a heated contest and resulted in six yellow cards in the game with each team receiving three cards aside, it was no surprise that pentaly kicks were common.
Queen's got the first chance for a pentaly kick as a Queen's player was upended in the penalty box on a corner kick which aloud Mike Arnold of London, Ont. to get a successful free kick and give the Gaels a 1-0.
Queen's would control the game defensively and offensively in the second half getting four corner kicks and not only giving up one shot on net.
Moving into injury time the Gaels looked like they were about to pull of the victory but a hand ball in the penatly box gave the Ryerson Rams life. Janarthan Sadacharalingam of Scarborough, Ont. scored the pentaly kick and tied the game up 1-1.
Queen's and Ryerson are now tied in the standings with one game remaining as does Trent who is just one point ahead of the Gaels and Rams. Ryerson will take on RMC tommorrow and Trent with battle Laurentian.
Queen's must rebound from this disapointing outcome as they will play against the University of Toronto who is currently in second place with a record of 10-1-2. Game time is scheduled for 1:00pm at Richardson Stadium.
