Nepean, Ont. (October 11, 2008) – Queen's recorded a 1-1-1 record over the thanksgiving holiday weekend with its best performance coming on Saturday morning in a 2-0 win over McGill. The Gaels also recorded a 0-0 tie against Carleton and a 2-1 loss to York on Friday night.
Queen's lone win came when
Maggie Yeomans of Mississauga, Ont. and
Kara McKnight of North Vancouver, B.C., registered goals to claim the 2-0 victory over McGill. Following the McGill game, Queen's went on to post a 0-0 tie against Carleton.
On Friday, the Gaels opened up their three-game set with a 2-1 loss to the York Lions. Queen's only goal came from
Francesca Ruddick of West Vancouver, B.C. York goal scorers were Kambria Ernst of Toronto and Lisa Brown of Milton, Ont.
Queen's sits in fifth place of the OUA field hockey standings with a 2-6-3 record and a total of nine points. With just one week to go and three games to play, the Gaels are hopeful of maintaining their hold on the fifth and final playoff position. Waterloo is in sixth place with seven points and will play against the Gaels next Saturday in what should be a playoff implication game.
Under OUA playoff regulations the top-five teams qualify for the playoffs with the sixth team coming from the Atlantic University Association (AUS).
