Ritcey commits to Gaels hoops

| By:
KINGSTON, Ont. (November 13, 2015) - Queen's women's basketball head coach Dave Wilson is pleased to announce that Emma Ritcey (Orillia, Ont.) has signed her letter of intent to play basketball at Queen's for the 2016-17 season.

"Emma is a perfect fit for Queen's," commented head coach Dave Wilson. "She is a very talented combo-guard, able to play point or off-guard positions, with great court vision and understanding of the game. She has a wisdom on the floor beyond her years, able to angle and anticipate very well on defence, as well as offensively read the seams in the opposition's defence, and skill to knock down the 3-point shot., She will blend into our talented team very well, both character and skill-wise. I am very much looking forward to working with Emma over the next few years."

Ritcey, a 5-8 guard who is finishing her high schooling at Orillia District Park SS, has excelled with the Barrie Royals in the JUEL of Ontario league and was the MVP at the Queen's basketball tournament as a grade 12 earlier this year. Ritcey will join Bridget Mulholland (Kingston, Ont.) for the 2016-17 season as the Gaels announced Mulholland's commitment earlier this Fall, read about Mulholland here.

"I chose Queen's because I want to be a part of the success and great basketball tradition that has been created there. I know that the coaches and players are all going to push me to be my best as a player, teammate, student and person. I can't wait to be a part of the Kingston community and wear the Tricolour!"

See below for a detailed look at what Ritcey has accomplished in her career thus far.

The Gaels (1-0) are on the road this weekend as they visit the Laurentian Voyageurs tonight and then the Nipissing Lakers on Saturday night. Both games are set for 6pm and can be seen live on OUA.tv. The Gaels next home game will be on Friday November 20th when they host the McMaster Marauders at 6pm at the ARC Main Gym. For tickets visit www.gogaelsgo.com/tickets.
