James Bambury was named interim head coach for the 2019-20 season, following the retirement of longtime Queen's women's basketball head coach Dave Wilson.

He joined the Queen’s Gaels Women’s Basketball team as an Assistant Coach in 2012 and is entering his seventh season on the women's basketball coaching staff.

Bambury spent the two seasons prior to joining Queen's as the Head Coach of the women’s basketball team at Royal Military College. Joining the Gaels as a coach marks a return to Queen’s for Bambury, who spent three seasons as a guard on the Gaels men’s basketball team, from 2000-03.

Prior to joining RMC, Bambury coached in England. He was the Head Women’s Basketball Coach of Leeds Metropolitan University from 2008-10, where his squad won the British Universities and Colleges Premier North Division championship, and was runner-up in the national final. He also served as an Assistant Coach with the England Universities Games Team in 2010 and Associate Coach of the England Under-18 national women’s team and the Head Men’s Development Coach at Leeds Metropolitan from 2008-09.

Bambury holds a Master of Elementary Education degree from Carlow University, and was previously pursuing his doctorate at Leeds Metropolitan.
