Queen's Women's Soccer opened the 2026 season in dramatic fashion, earning a 2–1 victory over the Carleton Ravens on the road in Ottawa.
Rookie Soph Campbell (Kinesiology) made an immediate impact in her Queen's debut, finding the back of the net in her first game as a Gael. Fellow first-year Evelyn McCabe (Kinesiology) set up the opening goal, delivering the ball in for Campbell to connect on a header and give Queen's the early advantage. The first-year connection marked an impressive start for the pair in the Tricolour and sent the Gaels into halftime with the lead.
Carleton found an equalizer in the second half to bring the match level, with the two sides remaining locked at 1–1 as the game entered its final minutes.
With time winding down, Lily Coish (Environmental Studies) delivered the difference-maker. Coish stepped into a strike from around 30 yards out, sending a beautifully placed shot beyond the Ravens' goalkeeper and into the back of the net to restore Queen's lead late in the match.
The goal proved to be the game-winner, as the Gaels held off Carleton through the remaining minutes to secure the 2–1 victory and their first win of the 2026 season.
Queen's Women's Soccer returns to action next weekend, heading to Toronto for an early afternoon matchup against the Toronto Varsity Blues.
The Gaels will look to carry their season-opening momentum into their second consecutive road contest, with kickoff set for 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 5.
