Queen's Men's Ultimate - National Champions 2026

Queen's Men's Ultimate claim record seventh National Championship; Dax Miller named Finals MVP

Queen's Men's Ultimate captured its record seventh national championship this weekend in Brampton, winning the Canadian University Ultimate Championships with a 12-9 victory over Ottawa in the gold-medal game.

The Gaels opened the tournament with a perfect 3-0 record in pool play, defeating Ottawa 14-7, Memorial 15-7 and UBC 13-8. They carried that momentum into Sunday's quarter-final, earning a convincing 14-6 win over Manitoba.

Through their first four games, the Gaels' offensive line scored on an impressive 94 per cent of its possessions, while the defence averaged 6.5 breaks per game. Queen's also held the lead for 84 consecutive points across the opening four contests.

The semi-final against McGill presented a new challenge, as the Gaels fell behind 3-0 early. Queen's responded with a four-break run to take a 7-5 halftime lead before closing out a hard-fought 9-7 victory. The win marked the first time the Gaels had defeated McGill in their previous six meetings.

In the gold-medal game, Queen's faced Ottawa for the second time in the tournament. The teams traded holds to open the contest before Ottawa secured a break to take the momentum. With the score tied 6-6, the Gaels called a timeout and sent out a stacked defensive line, earning a break to take a 7-6 lead. Queen's carried that advantage into halftime and added another break before closing out the championship with a clean offensive hold for the 12-9 victory.

"We've reminded these guys through the past five weeks that it was the 24 guys in our huddles who cared about us, and would stoke our own fires," said Queen's Men's Ultimate Head Coach Pete Galbraith. "We believed in each other even when times were tough - and closed the loop together to get back on track. I'm incredibly proud of this squad and what they've achieved."

Fifth-year veteran Dax Miller led the Gaels throughout the tournament, recording 12 goals, eight assists and six blocks to earn Finals MVP honours. Devan Pearson and Max Tolmachev delivered crucial catches in key moments, while rookies Nikhil Miller and Noam Pringle anchored the defensive line with five blocks apiece. The championship was a complete team effort, with every Gael recording at least one goal or assist over the weekend.

The victory gives Queen's a record seventh national championship, making the Gaels the most decorated program across the men's and women's divisions at the Canadian University Ultimate Championships. The title also marks the fifth national championship for head coach Pete Galbraith.

Reflecting on the team's achievement, Galbraith emphasized the belief and commitment that carried the Gaels through the tournament.
