The Queen's Gaels defeated the Toronto Varsity Blues 85-82 on Saturday night on the road in a closely contended game. The Gaels' offense was led by second year Ollie Engen (Kinesiology) with 21 points and 6 rebounds. Alongside their teammate were first years Inder Brar (Arts) and Jakub Dobiech (Arts) with with 15 and 13 points, respectively. As a team, Queen's made 36 rebounds, 6 steals, 30 points in the paint, and 30 points from the bench.  

The Gaels got on the scoreboard early in the game with three-pointers from Noah Khaja (Arts) and Engen. Queen's was strong on the three-point line, with Lucas Ponting (Commerce) and Brar each putting up three-pointers before the end of first quarter, bringing the Gaels a slight 22-17 lead. In the second quarter, Dobiech put up 8 points, coming from 2 three-pointers and 1 jump shot. With an 8-point lead for the Gaels, Toronto was forced to call a timeout in an attempt to narrow the away team's lead. Despite holding a 10-point lead for most of the second quarter, the Varsity Blues managed to cut the Queen's lead to 44-40 going into halftime.  

Engen dished a pass out to Tyson Lama (Commerce) early in the third quarter, as Lama drove to the net, earning a layup and drawing a foul. Toronto began to find momentum in the third quarter, overturning the Gaels' lead and leaving Queen's trailing on the scoreboard for the first time since the first quarter. With a 58-53 Varsity Blues lead, the Gaels called a timeout to regroup. Queen's struggled to generate offense, as they entered the final quarter trailing 61-58. Intensity was high in the fourth quarter, as the teams exchanged points back and forth, with neither side finding more than a three-point lead. Brar made their third three-pointer of the game as the momentum began to shift towards the Gaels, with another three-pointer from Dobiech bringing the Gaels an 83-78 lead. With 17 seconds left in the game, Toronto called a timeout as the Gaels led 85-81. In a nail-biting finish, Queen's was able to remain composed on defense to win the game 85-82.  

Up next, the Gaels will look forward to matching up against the Nipissing Lakers on Friday night at home. They improve their record to 12-7 and extend their win streak to six.
