Abbey McAlpine, Lucas Peric named Queen's Student-Athletes of the Week

Abbey McAlpine and Lucas Peric have been named the Queen's University Student-Athletes of the Week for their performances with the Gaels over the weekend.

McAlpine (Arts & Science) helped Queen's Women's Volleyball get off to an undefeated start to the second half of the season, with the Gaels sweeping their home series against the visiting Guelph Gryphons.

In Queen's 3-1 (19-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-17) win over the Gryphons Friday night, McAlpine led the team in kills with 11, while also contributing 10 digs and two assists.

And in the Gaels' 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-19) win over Guelph Saturday afternoon, McAlpine once again led the team in kills with a game-high nine. McAlpine had three aces in the win as well.

With the two victories, Queen's improved their record to 7-5 on the season. The Gaels have next weekend off before returning to the court on Friday, Jan. 23, taking on their cross-town rivals, the RMC Paladins.

Peric (Economics) scored two goals in Queen's Men's Hockey's 4-3 win over the Ottawa Gee-Gees this past weekend.

Peric opened the scoring early in the first period before adding the Gaels' second goal of the game midway through the second period in the win.

With the victory, Queen's improved their record to 10-8-0. The Gaels are on the road next weekend, taking on the McGill Redbirds Friday, Jan. 16 at 7 PM, and the Concordia Stingers, Saturday, Jan. 17 at 7 PM. Both games can be seen on OUA.tv.
