The Queen's Women's Soccer team dominated from start to finish in a 9-0 victory over the RMC Paladins on Sunday, September 14th at Richardson Stadium. The Gaels wasted no time setting the tone, striking four times in the opening half before adding five more in the second to secure the shutout victory. With the win, the Gaels improve their record to 4-1, continuing their strong start to the season.
Erin Hedgcock (Commerce) opened the scoring in the second minute, finishing off a pass from Tatiana Kayrouz (Commerce). Just two minutes later, Sam Caputo (Health Sciences) doubled the lead, assisted by Seema Sakran (Kinesiology). Sakran added a goal in the 10th minute, assisted by Mattson Strickler (Concurrent Education). Before the half-hour mark, Brinley Bjornson (Economics) extended the advantage with a goal off a pass from Strickler, sending the Gaels into halftime ahead 4-0.
The Gaels continued to press in the second half, forcing the Paladins into an own goal early in the period to make it 5-0. Brinley Bjornson (Economics) then added another goal with a well-placed shot to extend the lead even further.
Momentum stayed firmly with Queen's as Tatiana Kayrouz (Commerce) scored in the 72nd minute after a pass from Cassia Crozier (Kinesiology). Less than a minute later, Seema Sakran (Kinesiology) struck again for a second goal of the game, putting the Gaels up 8-0. In the final 10 minutes, Lily Coish (Environmental Studies) added the final goal, assisted by Sakran, sealing the 9-0 victory.
On the defensive side, the Gaels' backline and goalkeeper Ashley Strand (Biochemistry) held the Paladins without a single shot on target, securing the clean sheet. Queen's outshot the Paladins 28-0, including 17 shots on goal, while earning six corners and maintaining control throughout the match.
