Queen's Women's Hockey edge host Windsor Lancers in shootout

Queen's Women's Hockey continued their incredible first half of the 2025-26 season by going on the road and edging the host Windsor Lancers 3-2 in a shootout Saturday afternoon in Windsor, Ont.

The Gaels jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first period, but the Lancers would storm back, netting goals in the second and third periods to force overtime.

After the overtime period solved nothing, Queen's managed to score with their first two shooters, while goalie Emma Tennant (Mechanical Engineering) stopped two of three Windsor shooters, for the big win.

Taya Leonard (Kinesiology) helped lead things offensively for the Gaels, scoring in regulation and overtime. Jada Wood (Arts & Science) also scored for Queen's in regulation while Mikayla Cranney (Arts & Science) scored the Gaels' second shootout goal.

Tennant made 34 saves in regulation and two in the shootout to capture the win for Queen's.

With the victory, the Gaels improved their record to 11-2-0 on the season. Queen's now sits first in the OUA East Division standings with a six point lead over the second place Ottawa gee-Gees. The Gaels will close out the first half of their regular season next weekend, hosting the Gee-Gees on Friday at 7:30 PM at the Memorial Centre, before traveling to Toronto, Ont. to take on the TMU Bold on Saturday at 7:15 PM. Fans can get tickets to Friday's home game on the Queen's Gaels Tickets website.
