Fresh off a dominant win last night, Queen's Men's Basketball returned to the ARC this evening, looking to take down the Laurier Goldenhawks and secure another win to cap off a thrilling back-to-back weekend.
The Gaels came out firing in the first quarter, setting the tone with aggressive defense and fast ball movement. Their early energy paid off, allowing them to take a 30–25 lead as the teams headed to the bench. Queen's looked sharp on both ends, showing a willingness to push the pace and challenge the Goldenhawks at every turn.
The second quarter saw Laurier fight back, keeping the game tight. Queen's managed to maintain a slim 47–44 lead at halftime, but it was clear the momentum could swing either way. The Gaels looked to regroup during the break, focusing on tightening up their rotations and finding ways to tilt the game further in their favour in the second half.
The third quarter turned into a back-and-forth battle, with neither team giving an inch. Queen's and Laurier traded baskets and big defensive stops, keeping fans on the edge of their seats. By the end of the frame, the teams were deadlocked at 76–76, setting up a dramatic final quarter with everything on the line.
The Gaels edged out a thrilling 100–97 victory, completing a perfect home sweep for the weekend.
Ollie Engen (Kinesiology) once again led the Gaels with 25 points and 7 rebounds, while Tyson Lama (Commerce) contributed 11 points. Lucas Ponting also had a strong showing with 19 points and 6 rebounds. When asked what the team focused on at halftime to turn the game in their favour, he explained, "Capitalizing on every rebound, moving the ball on offense, and getting great shots – and that really translated to the win.'"
Queen's Men's Basketball returns to action next Friday, November 28th at 6:00 PM, taking on the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks in Oshawa. The Gaels will look to carry their momentum onto the road—catch all the action live on
