Queen's Gaels Men's Hockey hosted the Ottawa Gee-Gees at the Memorial Centre Arena on Saturday night, wrapping up a back-to-back to open their season. Ottawa struck first on the man advantage, burying one off a clean draw just minutes into the game. The Gaels answered right back as Sam Marburg (Arts & Sciences) ripped home a power-play tally at 11:38, with Ian Lemieux (Arts & Sciences) picking up the helper. Queen's kept the momentum rolling midway through the frame when Kolton Cousins (Arts & Sciences) lit the lamp at 13:12, set up by Cameron Tolnai (Business) and Jack Duff (Biology). The Gaels capped off the period with another power-play marker, this time from Nolan Hutcheson (Health Studies), who finished off a feed from Lucas Peric (Economics) and Liam Tanner (Kinesiology) to give Queen's a 3–1 cushion heading into the first intermission.
The Gaels stayed hot to start the second, as Cameron Tolnai (Buisness) slipped one through the five-hole just minutes in to extend the lead to 4–1. The Gee-Gees pushed back shortly after to cut into the deficit, but Queen's had an answer once again. Rookie forward Sebbie Johnson (Arts & Science) restored the three-goal cushion with his first goal as a Gael, making it 5–2, with assists going to Sam Marburg (Arts & Science) and Ian Lemieux (Arts & Science). The Gee-Gees struck again to bring the score to 5–3, but Queen's quickly reasserted control. Nolan Hutcheson (Health Studies) found the back of the net on the power play for his second of the night, assisted by William Bouwer (Arts & Science) and Liam Tanner (Kinesiology), who notched his second helper of the game. The goal extended the Gaels' lead to 6–3 heading into the final frame.
The third period remained scoreless for Queen's, but Ottawa mounted a late surge with two quick goals. The Gaels, however, held firm to secure a 6–5 victory on home ice.
