Queen’s Women’s Soccer Takes Down Toronto 3-0 in Home Opener

Queen's Women's Soccer came ready for action on Saturday afternoon for their home opener against the Toronto Varsity Blues.

"It was great to be back here on our home field in a place that we're very familiar with and fits the way we play. We really enjoyed being home after four away games to start the year," Head Coach Dave McDowell commented.

Queen's demonstrated an authoritative presence on the field and bagged an 3-0 win.

Morgan Fenton (Philosophy) led the way for the Gaels, finding two goals, one in the first and one in the second.

Fenton lit up the scoreboard for the Gaels 4 minutes into the first, finding the bottom right corner off an assist from Lily Goss (Kinesiology).

In the 59th minute Mattson Strickler (Con Ed) added another one, beating the Blues' goalkeeper to the ball and firing it into the net.

Fenton accrued a second goal in the 66th minute, crossing the ball from the left side of the box into the top right corner of the net.

Kirstin Tynan (Political Studies) added another clean sheet in the win, Queen's fourth of the season. Tynan also sits fourth in the OUA for save percentage, with .846.

"She's been fantastic. Knowing she's behind us gives us confidence to do somethings you wouldn't be so confident doing with a not as competent of a source back there," McDowell said of Tynan's performance.

With the win, the Gaels record improves to 3-1-1

Women's Soccer continues their weekend at home on Sunday, Sept 15, at 1:00pm, facing off against the Carleton Ravens.
